[Introduction to the Buddha]
The Buddha of Suotong is also known as the Buddha of Suotang or the Buddha of Suotong. The hot iron was applied by Luang Phor .
Ancient records state that during the Ayutthaya Kingdom period, Burma invaded the capital for the second time and looted the golden Buddha statues in Buddhist temples to melt them down for gold. To protect the statues, the people covered them with mud and floated them on rafts. Three Buddha statues drifted down the Bang Pa-Kong River. The larger one floated to the surface in Samut Songkhram Province and was pulled ashore by the local residents. The smallest one floated to the surface in Samut Prakan Province and was enshrined there. The central Buddha statue, Luang Pho Sothong, floated to the surface in front of Wat Sothong in Chachoengsao Province. The villagers there found it and tied the three statues together with rope, attempting to pull them ashore, but to no avail. A high monk built an altar, performed a prayer ceremony, and hung amulets on the Buddha statues' hands. Only then could the Buddha be easily pulled ashore and enshrined on the altar in the temple, where it remains to this day.
