Origin of Queen Buddha
The Queen Buddha is also known as Phra Nang Phaya, the Buddha of Compassion. Nam Phaya Du was built in Phitsanulok from 2090 to 2100 B.E. It has a history of about 400 to 500 years and is one of the five ancient Buddhas in Thailand.
It was first discovered in 2444 B.E. This batch of Nam Phaya Buddha amulet is made of pottery mixed with stamen powder and mineral sand. It is divided into four colors: yellow, red, blue and black. The shape is isosceles triangle. Seals, earlobes and shoulders, are mixed with sand, soil, and medicinal materials, and there are six kinds of molds.
In addition to being cultural relics with a history of more than 450 years, these amulets have been widely believed since ancient times. It is very kind to believers, so it is also called "Buddha of Compassion".
In contrast, the Nam Phaya amulet stored in Phitsanulok Phayat Phaya Temple in Vietnam is the best and most expensive, but the most popular Nam Phaya amulet in the market is from 2095 B.E. (1552 AD) four years ago. It was built in the middle of the Ayutthaya Dynasty more than 150 years ago.
queen buddha legend
According to legend, during the Ayutthaya Dynasty, that is, the Yuan Dynasty in China, Queen Zhima, the mother of Somdej Phra Naraesuan, the emperor of Phitsanulok, initiated and cast a batch of amulets when she was regent as the Empress Dowager. At that time, the purpose of supervising the manufacture of these amulets was to send them to the soldiers who returned from the crusade against Burma with the emperor Shunde Bai as a reward.
After the distribution is completed, the remaining amulets are buried in the stupa of the Viebo Sai Maha Pagoda, which is now the temple of Phra Ching Rana (Success Buddha). The land of this temple is very large, and finally a small piece of land was divided to build Vietnam Paya in honor of the Queen Mother. At the same time, the Bodhisattva Pagoda was also built to store the remaining Nam Phaya amulet. At that time, the batch of amulets blessed by the empress dowager Queen Zhima were named "Nang" Nang, which represented the matriarchal line or female, and "Phaya", which means royalty, aristocracy, and grandeur . Therefore, this batch of amulet is called "Nampaya".
During the Yuan Dynasty, the phenomenon of male superiority over women in the Indo-China Peninsula was more serious than in China. It was not easy for Queen Zhima to be able to regent with a woman and to successfully balance the aggression of the Yuan Dynasty. And under her painstaking management, her son Shunde Bai also succeeded in inheriting the throne of the king, which is even more extraordinary.
At that time, the Yuan Dynasty was called the Queen's Kingdom because of the Queen's Regency. Therefore, the local Chinese called these amulets made by the Queen Mother "Queen's Buddha".
