Zheng Yifeng (1851-1937), also known as Li Yu, and nicknamed Erge Feng, was born in the Qing Dynasty. His ancestral home was Guangdong. Known for his philanthropy, Erge Feng led a legendary life, combining the roles of a wealthy businessman, leader of the Heaven and Earth Society, overseas Chinese leader, and gambling tycoon. He came to Thailand at the age of 14 to make a living, and at 16 joined the Thai branch of the Heaven and Earth Society. Due to his intelligence, courage, and unwavering loyalty, he gradually rose to prominence within the society, becoming its second-in-command, hence the title "Erge Feng" (Second Brother Feng).
During his lifetime, Erge Feng was a very successful businessman. At that time, during the reign of King Rama V, the country was facing financial difficulties and wanted to develop the gambling industry to increase tax revenue. By chance, Erge Feng contracted the business and obtained a legal gambling license. As a result, the Thai treasury had a stable income. Erge Feng was even granted the title of count by King Rama VI, which is why Erge Feng is revered as the "God of Gamblers".
Although Erge Feng made a fortune through gambling and various businesses, he was a chivalrous man who helped the weak and poor, built bridges and roads, and never forgot to give back to his hometown. When natural disasters struck, he provided extensive disaster relief. During the Guangxu era, he donated 100,000 taels of silver for disaster relief, and the Qing Dynasty bestowed upon him the title of Second Rank Ronglu Dafu.
All those who had received his kindness and the brothers of the Heaven and Earth Society worshipped him as a deity, mainly because his second brother, Feng, was a hero, righteous, charitable, and loved to help the poor.
Er Ge Feng was also incredibly successful in running casinos, winning every game at the tables! His fame extended beyond Thailand, reaching countries like China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, and Malaysia, where he was revered by countless devotees. Not long ago, a famous Buddhist temple released Er Ge Feng amulets, which sold out instantly upon release! This demonstrates the high esteem in which Er Ge Feng is held by the people.
