An important day in Southern Buddhism - Vesak

May 15 , 2022 Vesak ( Vesak ) is an important festival among Buddhist festivals, and it is also a day celebrated by Buddhists all over the world❣️❣️❣️

This day is a traditional day in Southern Buddhism to commemorate the birth, enlightenment and nirvana of Buddha Sakyamuni, the founder of Buddhism. 🙏🏻

Buddhists in South Asian countries such as Sri Lanka, Thailand, Myanmar, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Nepal and other countries all hold grand celebrations in this important annual festival. Many places will hold activities such as bathing the Buddha, releasing animals, giving alms and praying for blessings. Through the celebrations, the people are integrated into the atmosphere of auspiciousness and joy.

What's happening on Wesak Day?

🙏🏻 On this day, believers will offer some offerings such as flowers, candles and incense candles to the temple.

At the end of the day, the flowers wither and the candles burn out. This reminds believers that all things are ephemeral and that they will eventually decay and pass away.

🙏🏻 Will spend the rest of the day accumulating virtue and doing good deeds. For example, donating blood, releasing animals, visiting the elderly, etc. , because they believe that doing good deeds on Wesak Day will get double rewards❣️❣️❣️

🙏🏻 On Vesak Day, believers light lotus candles and pray for the blessing of the Buddha. After chanting the sutras, the believers are all vegetarians, intending to promote the Buddha's compassionate spirit of not killing.

🙏🏻The believers will also hold the "Three Steps and One Worship" ceremony in the temple, kneeling on the knees and walking forward, and kowtow once every three steps on the knees, praying to the Buddha to bless the world peace, sending personal blessings and meditating and repenting.

Vesak Day actually commemorates the birth, enlightenment, and nirvana of the Buddha on the same day. It turns out that according to records, the Buddha was born on the full moon day in May; 35 years later , he attained enlightenment under the Bodhi tree on a full moon day in May; later, the day of his Nirvana coincided with the full moon day in May .

Although the three are not the same day, they have the biggest common feature of a full moon. Therefore, later generations of Buddhists set the first full moon day in May every year to celebrate Vesak Day.

Vesak Day is also known as Buddha Day or Bathing Buddha Day. Vesak means the full moon and is the abbreviation of " Vaisakha " . , Bright realm. Since 1950 , Vesak Day has become a global Buddhist day of remembrance and is celebrated by Buddhist groups around the world .
