Why put gold foil on the statue?

Why put gold foil on the statue?

I believe that many good believers who come to Xinruge will know that we have set up a statue of Lahu for good believers to affix gold or see the statue covered with gold foil by good believers when they go to Thailand. Many people have questions 🤔️What is the reason or effect of doing this?

In Buddhism, there is a story about the Venerable Maha Kasyapa, the Venerable Maha Kassapa who also said that he drank the Venerable. "Because when Kunpo was dead, he was a goldsmith. With a poor girl, they used gold to adorn the Buddha statue. Since then, for ninety-one kalpas, his body is like gold, and the light and color are shining, covering the remaining color, hence the name Drink Light (drinking refers to swallowing, light swallowing various colors, that is, drinking light meaning)." It can be seen that the adornment of the Buddha statue with gold has extraordinary and inconceivable merits.

According to folklore in Thailand, those who can help Buddha statues with gold foil and pray devoutly will have incredible merits, which can increase their own merits and blessings, attract wealth for the next life, and accumulate merits for their family members. .

Incredible merit means:

1. 👨‍👩‍👦‍👦Happy family, prosperous career and abundant wealth.
Second, long life, great reputation, happiness and happiness.
3. Get out of the sea of suffering and achieve liberation.
Fourth, there is merit, authority, and many children and grandchildren.
5. Healthy body💪🏻, beautiful, no pain, no demonic obstacles.

Because of this, many temples in Thailand will prepare gold foil for good believers to gild the Buddha's body.

Generally speaking, there are two kinds of gold foil, one is the common cheap gold foil, namely copper foil; the other is the expensive pure gold foil. Of course, the price of these two kinds of gold foil is quite different, and there is also a big difference in color.

However, when one's heart reaches the Buddha's knowledge, in fact, the intention of respecting the Buddha is the same. In addition, good faith must pay attention, because the gold foil is very thin, and it is easy to stick to your hands if you are not careful. Therefore, good believers must be careful not to let their hands directly touch the gold foil and Buddha statues when sticking gold foil, otherwise it is impolite to the Buddha.

When the gold leaf is pasted, the believers can put the gold leaf in the hands of the folded hands and tell the gods of their prayers, make a sincere wish, and repay the promise as promised.

The different positions of the gold foil on the Buddha statue also represent different aspects of prayer:

Face: smooth work or charisma.
Abdomen: attracting wealth, keeping wealth, and living a prosperous life.
Belly button: Create wealth.
Forehead: Open the door of wisdom and increase judgment.
Chest: Personality.
Palm: Prestige and Power.

In fact, if you have good faith, you will find that the gold foil is actually wrapped with a thin piece of paper. As long as you gently open the paper covered with the gold foil with your hands, and then stick gold on the Buddha statue through the paper, and then you Then lightly press around the gold foil through the paper, and you're done.

In contrast, the Buddha statue in the amulet and the Buddha statue in the temple are also Buddhas. People think that if you put gold on the small Buddha statue in the amulet, it is also a great merit, and you can accumulate good deeds and attract wealth for yourself. In addition, when Thai monks supervise the making of amulets, they sometimes consider gilding the Buddha statues in the amulets.
